FAQs

How to set up new course?

If you want to see how a typical course is structured, we can arrange a demonstration or enrol you in the Course Creators Course.

We handle the actual course set-up in order keep it working within our system. You will provide the content and the topic headings. We show you how to upload content to the course menu so that you can do it anytime yourself, or you can forward the content to us and we will upload it.

How do I know if I have the Skills?

If you have studied and practised a skill, chances are that other people will want to know about that skill too. The more popular the skill the more likely it will attract participants.

Here are some examples:

Do you have skills in personal growth? These courses would focus on raising self-awareness and building an inspired future for others. A personal growth course could take advantage of our video hosting and audio podcasting options, as well as offering written material.

Are you an artist or crafstperson? So much can be learned about practical skills in the online environment. Just search out what is already up there on YouTube. Your can add value, however, in being available to answer questions and give tips in an eBrainz course. You upload images in a slideshow, add extra video, or discuss things in a forum.

How can I turn my knowledge into an online course?

Creating existing material to an online course takes planning. eBrainz staff will work with you to map out a practical program and identify the best online method of presentation. We can also point you to free or very chearp software to create the resources for the course.

Our Course Creators Course is free. We will enrol you once you have registered an intent to create a course. The course has an eForum where you can discuss with others your tricks and challenges to creating course resources. As well you have the option of emailing your questiosn to eBrainz course facilitators.

Just about anything can be taught in an online form. Use our sample list of courses to get ideas for the type of course you might want to host here. Here is some more information.

Intellectual Property of your material

Your course material remains your IP for ever - even if we have helped you create it. You can re-use your material in any form you like. However, we will advise you on best use of it in order to increase the marketing effectiveness of what you do.

You may also promote product and tools within your course, although courses must given real value for money and not act simply as a shop front for your business. eBrainz is a community of learning, so we expect course creators and tutors to play fair. All courses will be regularly monitored and participants will be asked to complete a satisfaction survey to ensure we have lots of satisfied repeat customers.

Course costs for enrolment

(and why would people pay for something that is available for free online?)

We will negotiate enrolment / subscription costs with the course tutor. The minimum course cost will be $49. However costs can be higher than that depending on the time participants will be allowed to stay in the course and the quality and content of the course. The added value for a course is that a participant may have access to a tutor through the course forum – if the tutor chooses that. By using the forum they enter a community of learners whiom they can communicate with and share ideas.

Course/course creator accreditation necessary?

It helps if you can prove credibility but it is not the philosophy of eBrainz to insist on any formal credentials. We want people who have experience and can demonstrate their mastery of a skill to be course creators. Skill can be demonstrated by a variety of means, e.g. pictures of artworks. This information will be available in a course 'splash' page where the course is promoted on eBrainz and where potential participants can subscribe to the course. We will ask for information and pictures from you when we create this page.

What is the likely profit?

We have no idea! It will depend on the popularity of the course and the course fee. But if you don’t attract participants you don’t pay anything. It is our risk to host the course and help you get it up online. Nothing is paid by you (outside of your choosing to create a high quality resource) until you get participants. That naturally will put pressure on us to create effective marketing campaigns to potential participants.

How will eBrainz be promoted?

We plan to blitz community newspapers and radio with regular announcements of new courses available. We will also ask course creators to email mailing lists encouraging recipients to visit eBrainz.

We will also be marketing through social marketing media. Visit us on Facebook (eBrainz.net) and our Blog (ebrainzonline), and click 'Like'.

We are already working on establishing links with other expert websites. Plus there are many other strategies that will be put in place as the number of courses increases.

Target audience?

People who own a computer and are connected to the internet via broadband.

They will generally be of an age where they are starting to appreciate the finer things in life, want to become a bit more creative, or explore new ways of thinking about life. They may also want to test the waters with a subject, or extend their current skills before committing themselves to a formal education course.

They may either have plenty of free-time, or their time may be limited so that an online course meets their needs better. They are likely to be concerned citizens and value the connection opportunities offered by a learning community.

Quality control of courses?

We intend to monitor all new courses before they go live. In fact no course will go live until we have taken a good look through. This includes checking for issues of copyright. From time to time we will go into courses to make sure there have been no major changes or deterioration. We also plan to set up a participant survey that is designed to alert us to any below standard course.

Costs for participants and how to enrol

Each course in the available list will have a splash sheet (linked from the list) that will describe the tutor and give an overview of the course content, course duration and cost. From that page an interested person can email the tutor (optional for the tutor) or click the Enrol Now button that will take them to the PayPal system.
