Maori kete

Take the leaves and ... create a 'Kete' - the Maori word for basket

This course could give you tools that will enable you to play your part in creating a more-sustainable economy. Using the skills you learn on this course could help you to produce baskets, food mats for hangi (underground ovens), bags for carrying and storing items.

The people who have created this course on Harakeke Weaving are Golden Bay High School students . They have each created a part of the course, sometimes working with a partner, to demonstrate their skills in information technology for NZQA qualifications. Their evidence has been turned into a short course you can use to learn the traditional art of harakeke (flax) weaving. New Zealand Maori have, and still do, use this skill to create bags and mats for ceremonial and domestic use. Besides being practical, biodegradable and attractive to look at, harakeke can be maintained in a sustainable way, providing benefits for generations to come.

The fee for this course is $NZ50.00

For this you get access to 12 videos that you replay frequently and several downloadable sets of instructions.
You can be enrolled in this course for up to 6 months.

That's great value for very little investment.

Non-Creadit Card payments

By taking the course and empowering yourself to weave, you will assist the Golden Bay High School. Your course fee will go towards GBHS school funds.

A real win-win.

Of course the GBHS students worked with a skilled harakeke weaver as their subject matter expert. Their teacher, Anne Barrett, is thrilled for them to be able to have this real world experience in applying their growing skills. And you can benefit by gaining access to this great weaving resource.
